Congressman Johnson’s Statement In Response To Supreme Court’s Decision On Presidential Immunity

July 1, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the Supreme Court’s decision today in Trump v. The United States on former president Donald Trump’s claim that he is immune from prosecution on charges of trying to overturn the 2020 election, House Judiciary Courts Subcommittee Ranking Member and Chair of the Court Reform Now Taskforce Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) released the following statement:

“This suspiciously delayed ruling by the 6-3 super-MAGA majority on the court marks an early and breathtaking Independence Day for Donald Trump and for future presidents, who now are officially above the law. This ruling, and this session of the court, has been brutally assaultive on democracy and the rule of law, and we must expand the court and pass term limits to protect what constitutional order remains intact.”
