Autonomous vehicles need stricter rules -U.S. safety group, labor unions

Legislation to speed the deployment of self-driving vehicles and ease hurdles has been stalled for years and shows no sign of moving. U.S. safety regulators are also investigating a number of crashes involving Tesla Inc's driver assistance system, Autopilot. Tesla has said its systems are safe.

Under pressure from regulators, Tesla on Tuesday agreed to disable a feature from its "Full Self-Driving" (Beta) feature that allowed vehicles to drive through a stop sign without coming to a complete stop, at low speeds. Representative Hank Johnson criticized Tesla's feature at Wednesday's hearing.
